Omega Seamaster Review

The Olympics may be over but Omega certainly isn’t. So what’s the entry costs of buying into the Omega family?

The Omega story started in 1848 since then the Omega mechanical movements reputation in the industry has been unparalleled. Omega has been chosen by the British Royal Flying Corps, and NASA, who made it the first watch on the Moon.

Already, its history and pedigree seem out of this world and somewhat unobtainable for us mere mortals. But, while its pedigree is undeniable, it may come as some surprise to find their entry level offering is not only a fully fledged Omega timepiece, but just about affordable as an aspirational purchase.

The Best Omega Watches For Men:

The Seamaster

The Seamaster collection introduced in 1948 when Omega was already 100 years young and now revived, is all about giving professional divers confidence their movement will never let them down. Large displays and easy to program functions make the Seamaster an ongoing favorite among divers.

That’s at least the idea behind Omega’s revival. But we can’t deny the realities of life, and when I say 007, you know where I’m going.  I had to mention 007 because, since GoldenEye, the Seamaster Diver has found its way onto the wrists both of Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig’s.

Omega’s most affordable men’s timepiece available today is the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M, a quartz model, followed by the automatic Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Chronometer watch.

The long story short, the least expensive Omega watch overall is the Ladies’ 24.4mm Quartz De Ville Prestige, followed by the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M (quartz), then the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial (mechanical). For this article, I am interested in the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M as the entry-level men’s quartz watch, and the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial as the entry-level men’s mechanical.

Omega Aqua Terra 150

The Aqua Terra 150M model is both the most affordable men’s watch from Omega, with the notable attribute of being gifted to U.S. Olympic team athletes 2016. The good news for everyone is entry level models by Omega are not cut down versions stripped or compromised lightweights. They reflect the true value of the brand that carries through from entry level to top of the tree. For many, the Seamaster represents the Omega brand.

So, we have two entry level Seamaster, the Diver 300M and the Aqua Terra150M. There are the oldest of their current lineup that has been revamped from their original 1948 outing. The full range of Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watches come in a number of sizes, variations, materials, finishing, and construction. All are 150 meters water-resistant and promise a good level of durability.

Omega Seamaster Diver 300

The quartz doesn’t always wow the purists so let’s take a look at the mechanical. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial is the most affordable mechanical Omega watch and in my view, the best of Omega men’s watches on sale for men, so what do you get? This price point gives the simple three-hand setup available in 41mm and 36.25mm cases, each with lacquered dials and ceramic bezels in blue or black. Water resistant to 300 meters, the Co-Axial qualifies as a professional dive watch and also includes a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock.

The ceramic bezel adds both to the aesthetics and to value, and in combination with the sapphire crystal, this piece is close to scratch-proof forever. To help visibility the lume is extended passed the hour markers, bezel pipe, tips of the hands, and the skeletonized shafts of the hands.

The choice of which Omega watch to buy is always difficult, obviously, the more money you throw at this, the more you get. Larger case sizes, deeper depth ratings, more complications, fancier movements. But with the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial watch it’s unnecessary. It not only offers all the qualities Omega is known for, but it’s recognizable as an icon. Mention “Seamaster,” and this is what people envision:

  1. Hi Carl =)

It was interesting to read about the history of omega watches and to find out that it has even made it’s way to the moon – How Cool!

I also like how you have added an image of an icon wearing the watch as this may make people have an emotional attachment to the product – this is how marketing works!
